New Traineeship opportunity to cultivate Australia’s chicken meat industry

If you’ve ever enjoyed a juicy piece of chicken, you’re not alone. In fact, the average Australian now consumes a whopping 1kg of chicken every week! To keep up with this growing demand and ensure supply, the AgriFutures Cultivate Traineeship Program is now open to Australian citizens and permanent residents eager for an early career opportunity.

What’s it about?

AgriFutures has joined hands with the chicken meat industry to launch this exciting traineeship program. It’s a golden opportunity for people who are passionate about animal welfare, innovation, and sustainability to kickstart a thriving career in this field.

By participating in this program, not only will you earn a Cert III in Poultry Production, but you’ll also be guaranteed a full-time role in the industry. Plus, you’ll be part of a vibrant community of like-minded peers and receive professional development and mentoring.

What the industry has to say

Executive General Operations Manager at Inghams, Susy Klein, is thrilled to support this initiative. She says, “It’s an important collaboration that provides the industry with a new way of growing our workforce capacity. There are diverse career options in the chicken meat industry as it has a vastly different structure compared to other agricultural industries.”

Managing Director of AgriFutures Australia, John Harvey, believes that the Cultivate Program is a unique pathway into the agricultural workforce, especially for those who may not have considered a career in the chicken meat industry before. He emphasises the importance of nurturing young talent for the future of agriculture.

Katherine Balding, General Manager, Technical, Nutrition and Feedmilling at Baiada Poultry, points out that the opportunities in the chicken meat industry are often underestimated. Many professionals in the field started with hands-on roles on farms and worked their way up to supervisory and management positions at some of Australia’s largest food production companies.

Dr. Mary Wu, CEO of ACMF, adds, “This is a hugely exciting initiative for the industry, providing an excellent entry platform for people to explore the diverse and rewarding roles the industry has to offer, while attaining a formal qualification and having a full-time job at the end of it – what a winning combination!”
