Truck drives are critical to the horticulture industry, helping to move produce from rural and remote farms and processing facilities to urban markets and supermarkets. They are responsible for the timely delivery of produce whilst maintaining high safety standards and following all appropriate cold chain management procedures.
Core Tasks:
- Liaising with growers, facility managers, cold chain management staff, markets, and other drivers to ensure timely delivery and processing.
- Manoeuvring vehicles into position and assisting with loading and unloading using lifting and tipping devices.
- Maintaining temperature control of the truck/container during the loading and unloading process.
- Observing safety requirements when loading and unloading vehicles.
- Making regular quality checks of vehicles to ensure they can be driven safely.
- Estimating weights to comply with load limitations and ensuring safe distribution of weight.
- Ensuring goods are stowed and securely covered to prevent loss and damage including appropriate venting of the product.
- Maintaining appropriate records of the delivery process including temperature control in line with product specifications and specific customer orders.
