Maintenance Electrician

As a maintenance electrician it is your responsibility to maintain and upkeep all electrical systems in the business.

As a maintenance electrician it is your responsibility to maintain and upkeep all electrical systems in the business. You will be working on large and small circuit systems that will require attention to detail when fixing and altering systems. You will need to work independently and be proactive to repair machinery to ensure the production lines are back in operation as soon as possible.

Core Tasks:

  • Assist with maintenance and continuous improvement of the equipment.
  • Ensure equipment is operating at high efficiency during peak season and manage breakdowns.
  • Perform preventative maintenance on equipment in the off-season.
  • Install and apply continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Examining blueprints, wiring diagrams and specifications to determine sequences and methods of operation.
  • Measuring and laying out installation reference points.
  • Selecting, cutting, and connecting wire and cable to terminals and connectors.
  • Using electrical and electronic test instruments to trace and diagnose faults.
  • Repairing and replacing faulty wiring and defective parts.
  • Positioning and installing electrical switchboards.
  • Connecting electrical systems to power supply.
  • Testing continuity of circuit.
  • Installing, testing, and adjusting electric and mechanical parts of lifts.
  • Installing, testing, and commissioning solar photo voltaic (PV) power generation systems.

Study Pathways:

  • UEE30820 – Certificate III in Electrotechnology Electrician
  • UEE40620 – Certificate IV in Electrotechnology – Systems Electrician
  • MEM31219 – Certificate III in Engineering – Industrial Electrician
