Irrigation Designer/ Manager

As an Irrigation manager you will provide professional and technical support to the horticulture and agriculture industry sectors in developing, designing, and managing irrigation systems.

This role can be as an internal business manager or by external consultancy.

The role is quite diverse, and duties can involve setting and checking irrigation systems, pest monitoring, spray management, and other day-to-day duties like slashing and tractor driver jobs. Large scale properties rely on precision management and innovative irrigation infrastructure to deliver and ensure best service.

An irrigation manager will also inspect each block/ area and check the leaf and fruit quality to ensure plants are not stressed and are growing well.

 

Core Tasks:

  • Design and manage irrigation systems and monitor programs.
  • Appropriately select and best irrigation and pumping system based on crop, soil type, topography, water availability, climate, hydraulic parameters, technology, price, and client specifications.
  • Supervise irrigation system installations and maintenance.
  • Determine soil types and growth characteristics of crops.
  • Interpret aerial photographs and prepare maps showing soil and vegetation patterns.
  • In conjunction with Agribusiness professionals, develop an irrigation and drainage management plan.
  • Establish an irrigation related environmental protection program.
  • Provide specialist advice to clients including plans and reports.
  • Prepare estimates, quotes and tenders.
  • Set up laboratory or field equipment for soil, water, and irrigation testing.
  • Negotiate and monitor contracts.
