Environmental Engineer

Environmental engineers use their engineering skills to solve environmental problems and create sustainable solutions. This could include assessing the impact of engineering projects on air, water, soil and noise levels in the vicinity of engineering projects. Registration or licensing may be required. 

Task 

  • Environmental analysis and reporting, specifically relating to Land contamination 
  • Plan and perform field investigation 
  • Applying technical knowledge and driving continuous improvement in environmental performance and risk management 
  • Solve problems and identify solutions 
  • Apply technical knowledge and support management of the surface water containment system  
  • Understanding of the legislation relating to Protection of the Environment Operations Act 1997 and the Contaminated Land Management Act 1997  
  • Understanding of Ecologically Sustainable Development principles 

Study Pathways 

Most occupations in this unit group have a level of skill commensurate with a bachelor degree or higher qualification. In some instances, relevant experience and/or on-the-job training may be required in addition to the formal qualification (ANZSCO Skill Level 1). You will need to complete and Engineering degree majoring in environmental engineering.
