As an agricultural technician you will be responsible for keeping machinery in excellent working condition. Undertaking regular maintenance, repairs, and general services on a wide range of agricultural vehicles and equipment including tractors, trucks, headers, packing and washing machines.
Agricultural machinery is critical for the horticulture industry. Horticulture has become increasingly automated, saving time and money it assists in picking, processing, packing, seeding, spreading fertilizers and chemicals, and transporting produce to market.
As an agricultural technician you will be responsible for keeping machinery in excellent working condition. Undertaking regular maintenance, repairs, and general services on a wide range of agricultural vehicles and equipment including tractors, trucks, headers, packing and washing machines.
Core tasks:
- Diagnosing faults in diesel engines, transmissions, and mechanical parts.
- Dismantling and repairing engines, transmissions, and mechanical parts.
- Performing maintenance services on vehicles and agricultural equipment.
- Testing and diagnosing vehicles and equipment for operational efficiency.
- Undertaking repairs on farm.
- Ordering spare parts for vehicles and equipment.
- Keeping detailed records of repairs and maintenance.
Study Pathways:
AQF Associate Degree, Advanced Diploma or Diploma
At least three years of relevant experience may substitute for the formal qualifications listed above. In some instances relevant experience and/or on-the-job-training may be required in addition to the formal qualification. (ANZSCO Skill Level 2).
