Alexander Kennedy `Sandy’ Sutherland and his wife Iris had a long and involved partnership with Veterinary Science in Australia. Sandy was National president of Australian Veterinary Association (AVA) and President of the Australian College of Veterinary Scientists, he was awarded several prizes for his service including the Order of Australia. Iris was involved in the establishment of the Veterinary Ladies Auxiliary, Iris was awarded the AVA’s Meritorious Service Award in recognition of her own contribution to the profession. Sandy and Iris were passionate about veterinary science and committed to the importance of the role of the AVA. In establishing the A.K. & I.A. Sutherland Scholarship it is hoped their legacy of excellence and service will continue in future generations of veterinarians.
