Handle, slaughter and process livestock, operate processing equipment and despatch products.

Tasks

  • Handle livestock before they enter the abattoir
  • Slaughter animals
  • Prepare carcasses by removing hide and internal organs
  • Handle and process carcasses
  • Bone and slice carcasses to prepare meat cuts for sale and further processing
  • Process hides and pelts
  • Process by-products

Personal Requirements

  • Observational skills
  • Enjoy practical work
  • Physically fit
  • Good hand-eye coordination
  • Ability to work alone or as part of a team

Qualifications

For this position, the skills required could have been developed through on the job training, previous work experience in other related roles or through vocational training.
