Responsible for the management, conservation and preservation of marine and freshwater resources.
Tasks
- Patrol and investigate waterways to ensure that relevant laws and regulations are obeyed
- Inspect fishing vessels, leases and processing plants to ensure compliance
- Provide advise to industry on regulations and standards
- Monitor activities that affect marine and freshwater habitats
- Promote marine and freshwater management programs
- Provide information and advice on the protection of marine and freshwater ecosystems
- Assist research programs
- Enforcing laws and regulations to conserve and protect fish and wildlife
- Carrying out environmental impact assessments for a wide range of development projects
Study Pathways
Most occupations in this unit group have a level of skill commensurate with a bachelor degree or higher qualification. In some instances relevant experience and/or on-the-job training may be required in addition to the formal qualification (ANZSCO Skill Level 1).
